What are the pros and cons of breast lift surgery with implants?

Model, not actual patient.

Breast augmentation with breast lift combined cosmetic surgery has emerged as a popular procedure for women over in recent years. Advancements in surgical techniques have made the procedure less invasive and more effective.

During your initial consultation, your surgeon will explain to you the advantages and limitations of breast lift with implants in comparison to individual breast augmentation and breast lift procedures. You should freely ask questions from your surgeon and clear all your doubts in order to make an informed choice.

Board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Farah Naz Khan provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Dallas, Texas, and surrounding locations.

Pros of a Combined Surgery

While you have the choice of undergoing breast augmentation and breast lift plastic surgeries separately at different times, there are inherent advantages of a combined procedure that you should carefully consider.

In a combined surgery, you will only need to visit the surgery center once, receive general anesthesia only once, and undergo the procedure only at one time. This will reduce your risk in two ways. You will be exposed to the inherent surgery risks and complications only once, and you will face the risks of general anesthesia only once.

Since you have chosen a combined procedure, you will go through a pre-surgery preparatory process just one time. Post-surgical recovery process will also occur just once, which means your post-op downtime and discomfort will occur only once.

Most importantly, your surgeon will have a greater opportunity to perform the procedure more comprehensively and conservatively when you are combining breast lift with breast implants surgery. The surgeon will aim to utilize common incisions to perform tightening of the breast tissue as well as creation of implant pockets to place the breast implants.

How much excessive breast skin should be removed can be determined more accurately in relation to the implant size you have chosen. This will allow your surgeon to create more natural looking and attractive results.

A combined surgery is also more cost-effective compared to two separate surgeries because the operating room costs, surgeon’s fee, anesthesiologist’s fee, and pre- and post-op costs will be incurred just once.

Cons of a Combined Surgery

Although the surgeon can create better outcomes using the same incisions in a combined surgery, the overall procedure will be more invasive compared to a single surgery. As a result, your post-surgical recovery time may be slightly longer compared to what you would undergo after a single surgery.

The cost-effectiveness is higher in a combined procedure, but the upfront costs that you will have to pay for a combined breast lift with implants surgery will be higher than those of a single surgery.

Finally, the risks involved in the surgery, such as implant failure due to capsular contracture, remain unchanged whether you undergo a combined procedure or a standalone breast lift or breast augmentation surgery.
