Breast Reduction in Dallas, TX

Breast Reduction in Dallas, TXWomen who have large and pendulous breasts often limit their activities because of the physical discomfort they suffer from. If you are looking for pain relief from large breasts and would like breasts more proportional to your body size and shape, you may benefit from undergoing a breast reduction.

What is a Breast Reduction?

Also known as a reduction mammoplasty, breast reduction surgery reduces breast volume. This helps alleviate neck, shoulder, and back strain that you are probably experiencing because of the large size of your breasts. Breast reduction surgery will also help if you suffer from bra strap grooving or skin irritation underneath your breasts. Perhaps more importantly, your self image may improve because you will be able to participate in activities that you were too self-conscious to take part in before.

How is it performed?

Incisions are made around the areola, from the areola down to the breast crease, and underneath the breast. This is often known as a “keyhole” or “anchor” shaped incision. In some cases, you may only need an incision around the areola and from the areola down towards the breast crease. Depending on your breast size and shape, Dr. Khan will determine which incision type is most appropriate for you.  During the procedure, breast tissue and skin will be excised and/or repositioned to help reduce the overall volume of the breast. For extremely large breasts, the nipples may have to be moved to a higher position on the breasts as free grafts. This involves the complete removal of a nipple from its original position and placing it on a bed of well-vascularized breast tissue at a more aesthetically pleasing position. Drains may or may not be needed depending upon the amount of breast tissue removed. Incisions are closed with internal sutures and surgical adhesive and/or tape may be applied as dressings.

What to expect after surgery?

This procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you will go home the same day as your surgery. You will have bandages covering your incision sites and you may have drains that will need to be emptied 3-4 times/day. You will be given oral pain medication to help with any soreness that you may feel after your surgery. You may shower the next day and our office will see you later in the day to monitor your recovery. Bruising and swelling are common after this surgery and will subside over a couple of weeks.  Your scars will be especially visible immediately after your surgery and while these will never completely disappear, they will fade over the following year.
