Maybe you were involved in an accident or previous surgery that traumatized your nose. Or maybe, the size and/or shape of your nose aren’t proportional to the rest of your face. If you are dissatisfied with the way your nose looks, you may be a good candidate to undergo a rhinoplasty.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Also known as a nose job, a rhinoplasty is designed to reshape your nose to help improve facial harmony and proportions. During your consultation with Dr. Khan, she will examine your nose in terms of size, profile, symmetry, tip projection and rotation, and breathing function. Based upon your exam, Dr. Khan will custom design a treatment plan for you that may include the use of cartilage grafts for restructuring and/or augmentation.
How is it performed?
Typically, incisions are made along the inside of the nostrils and along the thin strip of tissue between the two nostrils. This allows for complete visualization of the underlying nasal tissues. The underlying tissues, including cartilage and bone, are then reshaped, reduced, and/or augmented to achieve the desired result. Incisions are closed with external sutures and both internal and external nasal splints are used to help assist with your recovery.
What to expect after surgery?
This procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you will go home the same day as your surgery. You will be prescribed oral pain medication to help with any discomfort or soreness that you may feel. Bruising, swelling, and discomfort are common after this surgery and will subside over several weeks. Final results may be obscured until all of the swelling has resolved and make take up to a year for you to appreciate the final change.
