Glabellar lines are usually the first signs of aging for many people. These prominent lines run deep across the forehead horizontally. They are different from frown lines that run vertically between the eyes. The cause of glabellar lines determines the appropriate treatment for them. Dysport neuromodulator injectables are a popular and highly effective non-surgical treatment.

Board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Farah Naz Khan provides Dysport injections for correcting glabellar lines (11 lines) on the forehead between the brows to patients in Dallas, Plano, Texas, and surrounding locations.

Reduce Glabellar Lines with Dysport

Experienced treatment providers can reduce glabellar lines (11 or vertical parallel lines) with Dysport when they are as a result of hyperactive glabellar muscles. Glabellar muscles move the skin above the nose and between the eyebrows when you smile, laugh, look surprised, or make other facial expressions. In people that don’t have hyperactive glabellar muscles, the skin only wrinkles while making the expressions.

However, when you have hyperactive forehead muscles the forehead appears permanently furrowed. Dysport relaxes these hyperactive muscles, which means you don’t need to worry about your expressions appearing fake or frozen. Dysport allows for full range of expressions and muscle movement when required.

Relaxing Hyperactive Muscles

Dysport is made from a neurotoxic protein derived from Clostridium botulinum and other bacteria species. Electrical signals sent to the nerve endings by your brain are blocked when the neurotoxin protein is injected in the muscles. This means that your brain is not in control of your forehead muscles at all times.

Unfortunately, the body works to get rid of the toxin as it recognizes it as a neurotoxic protein. Hence, the results of the procedure are not permanent. Over time, your body’s natural metabolic processes will eliminate the neurotoxin from the body. You will notice the glabellar lines return as the brain send unneeded signals to the muscles.

Duration of Results

The extent of treatment results depends on how efficient your body is at eliminating the toxin. Results may last for 4 months when you are injected with the neurotoxin for the first time. With regular injections, you may notice the glabellar lines returning after six months or more. This is because the forehead muscles will atrophy after prolonged relaxation periods. You may also need smaller doses during repeat sessions.

Dysport Treatment Expectations

Dysport contains botulinum toxin A for treating glabellar lines. The treatment starts with an alcohol-based cleanser applied to the forehead for preventing infection. The treatment provider may apply lidocaine (mild local anesthetic) if you are worried about sensing the injection. Lidocaine will cause the targeted area to go numb.

If you don’t think you need a topical anesthetic, the treatment provider will begin preparing the injections as soon as the skin is sanitized. They will draw the appropriate dose of medication in the syringes. Dysport medication is injected within the muscles located above the nose and between the eyebrows for treating glabellar lines. Results occur almost immediately following the treatment. Your muscles will relax to give you a rejuvenated appearance.
