Tummy Tuck – Abdominoplasty

Tummy Tuck – Abdominoplasty

Model, not actual patient.

Are you considering a tummy tuck in Dallas, TX? Maybe you’ve lost a lot of weight recently and have some excess skin and fat that hangs around your midsection. Or maybe, after three pregnancies, you just can’t get rid of that lower belly pooch. If so, then you may be a good candidate to undergo a tummy tuck.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck helps you regain a smooth, flat abdominal contour by removing excess skin and fat. It also tightens your abdominal muscles to give you a more toned look. For those of you lamenting the good old days when you didn’t have to hide behind baggy clothing, a tummy tuck will get you well on your way towards those washboard abs that you dream about.

How is an Abdominoplasty performed?

For a full abdominoplasty, a horizontal incision is made from hip to hip. Dr. Khan then removes the excess skin and fat, and tightens the weak and/or separated abdominal muscles through this incision. In some cases, a new opening for the belly button has to be made. Drains are placed, and the incisions are closed with internal sutures and surgical adhesive and/or tape.

For those patients who only have a small amount of excess skin and fat, a smaller incision may be used to perform a mini tummy tuck. Similarly, for those patients who have a lot of excessive skin and fat, especially above the belly button, a second vertical incision may also be needed to remove all of the excess tissue.

What to expect after surgery?

When you have a tummy tuck at our Dallas, Texas facility, you have the option of staying overnight in our guest recovery room or going home the same day. You will have bandages covering your incision sites, and you will need to wear your compression garments. You will be given oral pain medication to help with any soreness that you may feel, and you will be able to shower the next day after your tummy tuck. You will need to empty your drains 3 to 4 times/day and record the drainage output. Bruising, fluid retention, and swelling are common after this surgery, and will subside over a couple of weeks. Final results may be obscured until all of the swelling has resolved.
