If you cringe every time you look in the mirror because of those sagging jowls, double chin and/or “turkey neck”, you may be a good candidate to undergo a neck lift.
What is a Neck Lift?
Also known as a cervicoplasty and/or platysmaplasty, a neck lift redefines your neck contour and helps give you a sharper jawline. As we age, the neck loses its youthful elasticity which results in unwanted jowls, neck banding, and displaced fat deposits. This procedure counteracts the results of natural aging or weight fluctuations by removing excess skin and fat and tightening the underlying muscles.
How is it performed?
An incision is first made underneath your chin. Excess fat may be excised or liposuctioned and the underlying muscles are tightened to help remove the visible banding. To help remove extra neck skin, incisions are made around and behind the ears. Incision locations and lengths will vary based upon the extent of your procedure. Fine external sutures will be used to close the incisions and surgical adhesive and/or tape are applied as dressings. Remember, tightening the neck will not improve the quality of your neck skin or completely rejuvenate your face. You may need a facelift in combination with a neck lift, and best results will be obtained with the regular use of skin care products.
What to expect after surgery?
This procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you will go home the same day as your surgery. You will need to wear your compression garment post-operatively and you will be prescribed oral pain medication to help with any soreness that you may feel. Bruising and swelling are common after this surgery and will subside over several weeks. Final results may be obscured until all of the swelling has resolved.
