You take care of yourself and more importantly, feel “young at heart”. But when you look at yourself in the mirror, your face definitely shows some wear and tear resulting in loose, sagging skin at the jawline and neck, hollowed out cheeks, and deep facial creases. If you’re ready for your face to look as young as you feel, you may be a good candidate to undergo a facelift.
What is a Facelift?
Also known as a rhytidectomy, a facelift allows for the redistribution of facial fat and the repositioning of muscle and deeper tissues, thereby making your face appear younger and more refreshed. But remember…a facelift CANNOT fix all the damage that has been done to your face and is often supplemented with additional procedures including upper and lower eyelid surgery, brow lift, facial fillers, chemical peels, and/or the use of certain skin care products. In combination, these help provide the greatest amount of facial rejuvenation and Dr. Khan will discuss which procedures are best for you based upon your problem areas and desires.
How is it performed?
Incisions are typically made under the hairline at the temples, around the front and back of each ear, and around the hairline of the lower scalp. This means your scars will be hidden beneath your hair and in the natural creases of your face and ears. Dr. Khan then redistributes facial fat and lifts and repositions muscle and deeper tissue. Skin is then redraped and tightened and excess tissue and skin are trimmed away. Drains are usually placed and all incisions are closed with both external and internal sutures.
What to expect after surgery?
After undergoing a facelift at our Dallas, Texas facility, you will stay overnight in our guest recovery room with a personalized nurse who will tend to your every need! You will have bandages/dressings covering your incision sites and you will be given oral pain medication to help with any soreness that you may feel. Once you get home, you will need to take care of your drains and we will see you in our clinic at frequent intervals to make sure you are recovering appropriately. Bruising, fluid retention, and swelling are common after this surgery and will subside over a couple of weeks. Final results may be obscured until all of the swelling has resolved.
