Body Contouring Plastic Surgery Procedure Steps

Body Contouring Plastic Surgery Procedure Steps

Model, not actual patient.

Body contouring plastic surgery procedure may include either fat reduction from certain areas or tissue tightening in areas with sagging skin, or both. The cosmetic surgery will involve multiple steps, which can differ from one patient to another depending on the type of surgical techniques and the extent of surgery performed.

At the time of pre-operative consultation, the surgeon will explain the various steps involved in the procedure. This will help to improve the patient’s confidence and make them aware about what to expect during the surgery. Outstanding and reliable board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Farah Naz Khan provides body contouring to patients in Dallas, Texas and surrounding communities.

Lower Body Contouring Steps

If the patient is seeking lower body contouring following a massive weight loss or a pregnancy, they may require skin tightening in areas such as the abdomen, waist, buttocks, hips and thighs. Alternatively, some patients may want fat reduction in these areas if they have stubborn fat pockets.

Fat reduction can be performed using tumescent liposuction technique, which will only require local anesthesia and sedation. However, in case of lower body lift, general anesthesia may have to be used. Anesthesia will be followed by the placement of incisions in discreet locations to remove the fat tissue or excess skin. The surgeon will plan the incisions while taking into account the patient’s incision preferences.

The surgeon’s goal will be to use common incisions to perform fat reduction or skin tightening in the targeted areas in order to minimize the invasive cosmetic surgery. Once the surgery is completed, the final step will be incision closure using traditional or dissolvable sutures. Support to the newly shaped contours will be given with deep sutures placed within the underlying tissue.

Upper Body Contouring Steps

If the patient requires fat reduction or skin tightening or both in the upper arms, the first step after anesthesia will be to create an incision below the armpit or along the back of the arm. Incisions will be small if only liposuction is needed for fat reduction. But for major skin tightening, the incision may run from the elbow to the armpit, or even extend along a part of the upper chest wall and toward the back.

For patients who require breast lift, an incision may be placed discreetly around the areola, and another going vertically down to the inframmary fold. Excess skin will be removed through the incisions to firm up and reposition the breast tissue to a more youthful level.

In case the patient requires mid and lower back lift, incisions may be placed on both sides of the mid back to excise loose skin from the area. Once the surgery is completed, the surgeon will carefully close the incisions with sutures, tape or skin adhesive.

Patients typically require either lower or upper body contouring, but in a few cases, both procedures may be combined. The steps in the procedure can vary according to the number and location of sites to be treated.
